Expect moderate to intense rains due to shear line — PAGASA
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Saturday, Feb. 22 warned of persistent rains over parts of the country due to the shear line—a weather system formed by the collision of cold winds from the northeast monsoon (amihan) and warm breezes from the Pacific Ocean (easterlies).
PAGASA Weather Specialist Benison Estareja said the chances of rains remain high in the Visayas, Bicol Region, Caraga, Quezon, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan, and Davao Oriental until Monday, Feb. 24.
Those in these areas are warned of possible flash floods or landslides, especially during moderate to intense rainfall.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms due to the easterlies may also prevail over Basilan, Sulu, and Tawi-Tawi.
The amihan may also bring cloudy skies with rains over Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, and Aurora.
From Tuesday to Wednesday, Feb. 25 to 26, Estareja said the chances of scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms may continue over southern Palawan, Caraga, Davao Region, Northern Mindanao, and nearby areas.
