Driver hacked to death by brother-in-law in Ilocos Norte

SAN NICOLAS, Ilocos Norte â€“ A 51-year-old driver was hacked and killed by his brother-in-law in Sitio Tamurong, Barangay 19 San Lorenzo here on Friday night.

Police identified the victim as Pedro Teja.

Investigation said that the suspect Efren Dumrique arrived from a drinking session and challenged the victim to a duel at his house.

A heated argument erupted and the suspect took a bolo inside the house and hacked the victim multiple times. The injured victim obtained a steel pipe in the house premises and struck the suspect in the head. The victim and the suspect slumped to the ground.

The victim was taken to a hospital where he was declared dead. Police arrested the suspect who was wounded in the forehead and was taken to a hospital.

The suspect is facing a murder case and motive of the incident is old grudge, police said.
