Art spanning decades and continents

Anama Villanueva's art continues to explore new depths, embodying perseverance, passion, and a profound connection to the world around her.

Born in Manila, and now based in New York, Nanette Ana Maria Villanueva also known by her artist name Anama Villanueva, was a fine arts major in painting at the University of Santo Tomas.

She started her career as an artist in the early 1990s after moving to the US, where she cultivated a unique artistic voice that bridges diverse cultural and emotional landscapes.

Her work has been showcased at prominent venues like the Metropolitan Museum, Ayala Museum, and the United Nations as well as numerous galleries and art spaces in the US and Manila. After a pivotal pause to embrace motherhood and a full-time role at the Met, she evolved her art to reflect themes of family, resilience, and the complexities of the human experience.

She has set recently returned to her roots with a current solo show. She is set to do another solo and a group exhibition in Manila to celebrate a dynamic career that spans decades and continents. Her art continues to explore new depths, embodying perseverance, passion, and a profound connection to the world around her.

A solo exhibition of the current works of Anama Villanueva is ongoing at the Kapitolyo Art Space and the Museo nang Museu until March 8.
