ZAMBOANGA CITY – The City Health Office reported on Thursday, Feb. 20, three deaths and 38 confinements at the Zamboanga City Medical Center due to dengue from January to February.

ZCMC Public Information Officer Dr. Shadrina Sarapuddin said dengue is among the Top 10 diseases that resulted in confinement of patients at their hospital.
Sarapuddin attributed the rise in dengue cases to intermittent rain.
CHO personnel are conducting vector-borne disease prevention and control activities to prevent the rise of the disease – fogging, entomological surveys, and community mobilization to implement the 4S strategy: Search and destroy breeding sites, Self-protection measures, Seek early consultation, and Support fogging and spraying.
The CHO has recorded reported 524 dengue cases with seven fatalities since January 2023.
In 2022, Zamboanga city recorded 3,884 dengue cases with 27 mortalities, the highest at the time in the Zamboanga Peninsula region.
