Karayama, Japan’s leading karaage chain, has opened its newest branch in Makati at One Ayala.
The brand traces its roots to a small storefront in Tokyo, where it developed its signature Japanese-style fried chicken. Each boneless piece is marinated in a proprietary blend designed to enhance, not mask, the chicken’s natural flavor. The chicken is then breaded and fried to achieve its signature crispness.
In the Philippines, Karayama aims to be known for its exceptionally crunchy fried chicken. Its ingredients are sourced from Japan, and its menu includes rice sets, Japanese rice bowls such as the Cheesy Karatama Don, Chicken Paitan Ramen, and curry rice sets. A signature offering is the 15-piece Chicken Mountain, inspired by the Japanese words “kara” (from karaage) and “yama” (meaning mountain). The menu also includes Japanese mochi, ice cream, and drinks such as Cherry Blossom Fresh Fizz.
During the Feb. 15 grand opening at One Ayala, Karayama Philippines President Kimberly Cruz and Karayama Japan representative Ken Korosu welcomed guests. The event featured a traditional sake-opening ceremony, joined by Fullfeeling Inc. CEO Dr. Jaime and Ms. Ricci Cruz, along with representatives from Karayama Japan and One Ayala. The highlight of the event was the unveiling of a towering, 100-piece Chicken Mountain.
As Karayama marks its fifth anniversary in the Philippines, its latest branch aims to bring its signature karaage to more diners in Makati and beyond.
