Fire District Intelligence and Investigation Section head Fire Senior Insp. Shaira Borja said the number is 29 fewer than the 128 recorded in the first two months of 2024.

Borja said fire incidents in January is 51.55 percent more than the same month in 2024.

This city has already recorded a 50 percent increase in fire incidents this month compared to the same period last year.

Borja identified overheating of appliances, loose connections, faulty plugs, and damaged wiring as the leading causes of residential fires.

Almost 80 families from the four fire incidents here this month received relief and cash assistance from the office of first congressional district Rep. Paolo “Pulong” Duterte.

His son, Rodrigo “Rigo” Duterte II, led the distribution of food packs, financial aid, and more than 300 hot porridges to affected families and individuals in Barangays 76-A, 23-C, 37-D, and 6-A.

The first district office noted three families received relief aid in 76-A Bucana on Feb. 18, 19 in Purok 2A in 23-C on Feb. 17, 35 in Purok 5 in 37-D on Feb. 16, and one in 6-A on Feb. 18.

Duterte’s office also prepared and distributed packed lunch for five days to help ease the burdens of fire victims sheltered at their barangay gymnasiums.

Rigo, on behalf of his father, vowed to continue delivering prompt assistance to families affected by disasters. He encouraged residents to stay cautious to avoid unfortunate incidents.
