Two students were wounded when a schoolmate stabbed them with a folding knife during a brawl in Pasig City on Thursday, Feb. 20.
In a now viral video on social media, seven students, all minors, from Rizal High School were seen engaging in a fistfight.
During the fight, one of the boys pulled out a folding knife and stabbed the victims.
The boy, who sustained a knife wound in the back, is now in stable condition, while the other victim is still under observation and will undergo surgery after being stabbed in the chest, hitting his lung.
The Pasig City Police placed all seven minors under its custody.
Police learned that the brawl started inside the school and escalated into a fistfight after classes.
Police officers have also recovered the folding knife used in the incident.
According to Rizal High School Principal Santos, the parents of the boy who stabbed his schoolmates may be held accountable if they have direct knowledge of their son's actions.
"Our school is fully committed to conducting a thorough investigation to uncover any underlying issues that may have contributed to this incident," Santos said.
"We have activated our child protection committee kung saan magkakaroon ng meeting ngayong umaga para pag-usapan 'yung mga possible na infraction, 'yung mga naging paglabag ng ating mga kabataan sa insidente (We have activated our child protection committee wherein we will be conducting a meeting this morning to tackle the possible infraction and violations committed by our students during the incident)," he added.
Meanwhile, the city government also condemned the incident as they urged the public to be responsible in using social media and refrain from sharing and posting the video of the incident.
"The City Government of Pasig does not condone acts of violence. We are coordinating closely with the Pasig Police and the Schools Division Office of Pasig, as they investigate this matter. For the protection of both students, we enjoin everyone to be more circumspect in sharing the videos." the Public Information Office (PIO) said in a statement.
