“Instead of feeling desperate or helpless, we are gathering stories on how different sectors of society serve as inspiration in managing the negative impacts of climate warming,” said Victoria M. Segovia, president of Green Convergence.
The three-day summit organized by Green Convergence in Iloilo City gathers the private and public sectors to find ways in addressing various problems of climate warming, including intense heatwaves, heavier rainfall, and other extreme weather conditions.
“We want to listen to stories on how we can help solve the problems,” Segovia told the Iloilo media.
With the theme “Ako ang Bukas (AAB): Quantum Leap to Climate Neutrality," one of the key discussions is lowering carbon footprint.
AAB convenor Angelina Galang urged participation in fulfilling the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) that calculates the country’s carbon footprint and tracks the actual impact on the climate.
Aside from initiatives on the national level, Galang said there must be stronger participation from local government units (LGUs) and other sectors in calculating carbon emission.
Galang encouraged the use of the Greenhouse Gas (GHG) calculators developed by the AAB technical team.
The summit that ends on Friday, Feb. 21, is in partnership with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) as co-convenor.
