The Overseas Community Affairs Council (OCAC) of Taiwan proudly presents the highly anticipated Lunar New Year Goodwill Mission Performance at the University of Santo Tomas (UST) in Manila on Saturday, February 15, at 6:00 PM. This performance is part of the OCAC's 2025 Lunar New Year Goodwill Mission Asia Tour, which will visit 15 cities across seven countries.

The “Brilliant Taiwan” performance offers an exciting showcase of Taiwan’s vibrant cultural heritage, featuring renowned Taiwanese artists from various musical genres. Among the performers are Sambuy, a Golden Melody Award-winning artist, Ayugo Huang, the “Hakka Music King,” and The Chairman Band, each bringing their distinctive sound and style. The event celebrates Taiwan’s cultural diversity, with performances in a variety of languages, including Hakka, Taiwanese, Mandarin, Indigenous languages, and English.

The performance is not only a musical celebration but also an opportunity for cultural exchange, providing a platform to highlight Taiwan’s unique music and traditions while extending heartfelt Lunar New Year wishes. This event is set to bring Taiwan’s warmth and energy to both local Filipino audiences and the overseas Taiwanese community in the Philippines.

“We are deeply grateful to the University of Santo Tomas for co-hosting this special event,” said Taipei Economic and Cultural Office in the Philippines Representative Wallace Minn-Gan Chow. “This performance offers a precious opportunity to present Taiwan’s rich cultural heritage and connect with audiences globally through the universal language of music.”

Approximately 600 attendees, including Filipino students and the local Taiwanese community, gathered at UST, the oldest university in Asia, to enjoy the vibrant performance. The evening kicked off with an electrifying DJ set by David, followed by Sambuy’s Indigenous songs, Ayugo Huang’s Hakka music, new-generation artist Siao Ai’s vocals, and The Chairman Band’s rock-inspired tracks. The event concluded with a spirited sing-along of “Effort is the Only Road to Success” and “Friends,” further elevating the festive atmosphere.

“We are thrilled that the Taiwan Lunar New Year Goodwill Mission has returned to UST for a second consecutive year,” said Rev. Fr. Louie R. Coronel, O.P., Secretary-General of UST. 

 

The Filipino student present at the event said, "This event offers a unique opportunity for students to experience Taiwan’s diverse culture firsthand, and after attending, I’m more eager than ever to explore the possibility of studying in Taiwan."

The event was also attended by distinguished guests, including Wilson Tecson, Board Member of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO), as well as OCAC council members, including Huang Ya-Hui, Jaime Tan, and Chiang Fu-Long, along with Minister of T.E.C.O. Michael Lee, Dustin Yang, Eric Chuang, Director of the Cultural Center of T.E.C.O., and Benjamin Liang, Deputy Director of the Cultural Center of T.E.C.O.

 

The OCAC’s Lunar New Year Goodwill Mission Asia Tour continues its journey through Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia, Cambodia, and Vietnam, concluding on March 13, 2025. Manila is the fourth stop on this cultural tour.
