Mayor: Stranded vessel not out to haul gravel, sand from Oriental Mindoro
CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro – Naujan, Oriental Mindoro Mayor Joel C. Teves has denied online posts saying that a stranded vessel in the sea of the municipality will haul gravel and sand from the province.

“There is no truth to those posts,” Teves said in the town’s social media account.
He said his office has coordinated with the Philippine Coast Guard regarding the presence of the ship in Barangay Estrella, which was later identified as LCT Poseidon 12, a cargo vessel owned by Conrete Solutions Inc. based in Mandaue City, Cebu.
The PCG reported to Teves that the vessel encountered engine trouble that temporarily halted its trip.
LCT Poseidon 12, with 18 crew on board, was carrying 10 dump trucks, five backhoes, and one Toyota Grandia van for delivery to Bataraza, a town in southern Palawan, the PCG said.
Teves said he was able to contact the owner of the vessel who assured him that the vessel’s destination is Palawan and not Oriental Mindoro.
Online ship locator Vesselfinder.com said LCT Poseidon 12 is a deck cargo ship built in 2009, 88 meters in length, and sailing under the Philippine flag.
Teves has called on the public to be vigilant on fake news to avoid confusion.
Hauling and transporting of large quantities of earth materials, particularly armor rocks, gravel, and sand have been a contentious issue in Mindoro as most residents, especially cause-oriented groups, perceive the activity as a form of destructive mining.
