Mayor Along orders stricter security in schools after failed kidnap try in Caloocan

Caloocan City Mayor Dale Gonzalo “Along” Malapitan has ordered stricter security measures in the city's schools following an attempted kidnapping incident in Maypajo, Caloocan.

In a statement, Malapitan said he immediately directed an investigation into the incident which involved two children.

According to the Caloocan City Police Station (CCPS), the suspect is a resident of Sta. Ana, Manila, and the case is considered an isolated incident.

Initial investigations showed that the suspect may be struggling with mental health issues as he was recently abandoned by his wife and child.

Authorities also revealed that he had not eaten for days and was previously jailed in December on drug-related charges.

It added that barangay tanod Bernie Nacubuan witnessed the incident and saw the suspect dragging a child.

He confronted the suspect and claimed the child was his, but the child denied knowing him. 

Residents of Barangay 35 intervened and apprehended the suspect, who was later turned over to the police.

The suspect is now in police custody and will face charges of attempted kidnapping.

In response to the incident, Malapitan ordered tighter security measures around schools, particularly during arrival and dismissal hours.

“Kasabay nito ay inuulit ko ang direktiba ko sa binuo nating Aksyon at Malasakit Task Force, lalo na sa kapulisan, na paigtingin ang pagbabantay sa mga paaralan lalo na tuwing oras na papasok at lalabas ang mga mag-aaral (Alongside this, I am reiterating my directive to our Aksyon at Malasakit Task Force, especially our police force, to intensify security measures around schools, particularly during arrival and dismissal hours),” he said.

Malapitan also commended Barangay Tanod Nacubuan for his vigilance and swift response which helped prevent the situation from escalating.

He assured residents that both barangay and police personnel are prepared to respond to any security threats.

The mayor added that the city government, in coordination with the police, barangay officials, the Public Safety and Traffic Management Department (PSTMD), and various sectors, will continue working together to ensure the safety of residents.
