The Lady Bulldogs proved to be too much for the rebuilding Lady Eagles and stayed on track in the early going of the season, with reigning Most Valuable Player Alyssa Solomon leading the charge with 12 points and Vange Alinsug adding 10.
“Sobrang happy kasi talagang total team effort ‘yong nangyari ngayon sa game,” said NU head coach Sherwin Meneses. “Hopefully, mag-improve pa ‘yong team effort namin sa mga next games.”
NU improved its record to 2-0 while Ateneo fell to a 0-2 hole in the standings.
Bella Belen had a quiet nine points while Camilla Lamina played a key role with 14 excellent sets on top of two kills.
AC Miner, Alexia Montoro, and Lyann De Guzman scored nine points each for the Lady Eagles in a losing effort.
Ateneo actually started strong and made big plays as Montoro and Jihan Chuatico gave the Eagles a fighting chance and almost stole the opening set.
But NU, behind Solomon and Alinsug, put the Lady Bulldogs in safe distance and wreaked havoc the rest of the way to preserve the victory.
Meanwhile in the men's division, the NU Bulldogs overcame a shaky start and captured a 23-25, 26-24, 27-25, 29-27 victory over the Ateneo Blue Eagles to make it two in a row.
