The initiative was held from February 1 to 16, which included consultations and tooth extractions.

Organized by the City Health Department (CHD), the initiative was part of the city's ongoing medical missions, which are conducted on weekends and on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Beneficiaries from Barangays Longos, Dampalit, Muzon, Catmon, and Niugan availed of the services provided by the city government.

Mayor Jeannie Sandoval emphasized the importance of maintaining good oral health, stressing that healthy teeth are essential not only for proper nutrition but also for boosting confidence and overall well-being.

“Napakalahalaga na mapangalagaan din ng bawat Malabueno ang kanilang mga ngipin. Maliban sa ito ay kailangan upang tayo ay makakain ng maayos, ay nakakadagdag pa ito sa ganda ng mga ngiti ng bawat isa. Kapag ito ay maayos, maipapapakita natin ang ating kasiyahan ng hindi nahihiya o natatakot (It is very important for every Malabueño to take care of their teeth. Aside from the fact that it is necessary for us to eat properly, it also adds to the beauty of everyone's smile. When our teeth are in good condition, we can show our happiness without feeling embarrassed or afraid),” she said.

City Health Department officer-in-charge Dr. Bernadette Bordador explained that the program involves dental professionals visiting various barangays.

She also emphasized the importance of proper oral hygiene, noting that dental health plays a vital role not only in maintaining a beautiful smile but also in supporting overall nutrition and hygiene.

“We begin taking care of children's teeth from an early age. Avoid bottle-feeding, as the rubber nipple can damage teeth that have yet to emerge,” she said.

“Also, refrain from giving babies and young children candies or sweets, as they can severely harm developing teeth. Proper nutrition, tooth brushing, and dental hygiene are essential for long-lasting oral health,” Bordador added.

The city government announced that the free dental missions will continue until next month, with schedules to be announced soon.

The LGU’s dental initiative underscores the city’s commitment to improving the health and well-being of its residents and emphasizes the essential role of oral health in daily life.
