Navotas City intensifies anti-dengue drive

The Navotas City government is stepping up its fight against dengue as the city reports a rise in cases of the mosquito-borne disease.

According to the city’s Epidemiology & Surveillance Unit (NCESU), out of the 24 reported cases, nine are confirmed and 15 are classified as probable.

This brings the total number of dengue cases in the city to 95 for the year, marking a 32 percent increase compared to the same period last year.

Some of the most affected barangays include Daanghari which recorded 13 cases, Tanza 1 and San Jose, both with 10 cases each, and Tangos South with nine.

Clusters of cases were also reported in other barangays, including Daanghari, NBBN, and NBBS Kaunlaran.

In light of the increase in cases, the city has surpassed both the alert and epidemic thresholds for the third consecutive week.

To address the rising threat, the local government has implemented proactive measures, including continuous fogging and clean-up drives in communities and schools.

The city's Health Education and Promotion Office is also actively engaging with residents to raise awareness about dengue prevention.

“Continuous ang misting at fogging sa community at paaralan, pati na cleanup. May info dissemination din na ginagawa ang Navotas Health Education and Promotion Office (Continuous misting and fogging are being conducted in the community and schools, along with clean-up efforts. The Navotas Health Education and Promotion Office is also carrying out information dissemination),” it said.

The city has also designated coordinators for the dengue control program, leading a series of coordinated efforts to curb the spread of the disease.

These include citywide vector control measures, mandatory clean-up drives, and coordinated misting and spraying operations to reduce mosquito breeding sites.

As part of the city's ongoing efforts, trained barangay sprayers have been deployed to support the clean-up and spraying operations across barangays and schools.
