Geely is set to begin 2025 with a fresh start, relaunching as a direct subsidiary of Geely Automotive International Corporation (GAIC) called Geely Motor Philippines Corp. (GMP). To show their determination to do better this time around, the brand presented updated versions of their current models with even more competitive prices. In addition, it previewed a fully electric model it intends to offer in the future.

The new Geely will continue to offer its present range of products. Two in particular, the Coolray and Emgrand bear timely upgrades to keep them even more competitive in their segments. The updated Okavango will follow soon. The Azkarra, unfortunately, may no longer be offered.

Coolray

The new Coolray sports an updated front façade, featuring a front grille seemingly cut out of body panels delicately folded like origami. On either side are the new headlamps, sporting new daytime running lamps with three horizontal bars, similar to the Emgrand. On the sides of the front façade are grey panels directing the eyes towards the side intakes. Red accents run around the grille and front splitter.

It’s also now powered by a new engine, the 1.5TD NordThor Power four-cylinder which produces 172-hp, paired with a new 7-speed dual clutch automatic.

Inside, the Coolray gets new two-tone seats. Ahead of the driver is a new LED panel that integrates both the digital instrument cluster and infotainment display. Above the passengers is a two-piece sunroof, with the front able to open up. Geely is currently offering a P70,000 discount for any Coolray model.

Emgrand

The Emgrand sports more subtle changes. Nonetheless, buyers will likely notice the slightly more aggressive styling. It gets a newly redesigned grille and more prominent intakes on the sides. It also sports a new wheel design.

Inside, the Emgrand’s interior is much more subdued with simpler black upholstery with aluminum accents. The center infotainment screen measures 12.3-inches. The rear bench also boasts of more shoulder room, capable of comfortable accommodating three passengers side by side. The second row floor has also been made flatter for more rear passenger comfort. Buyers of the Emgrand get a P40,000 discount.

EX5 EV

The EX5 is sleekly styled, seemingly carved from a singled block of metal. There’s hardly a single sharp angle on the entire car. The front features a rounded out nose crowned by the new Geely logo and full LED lighting. The rear boasts of modern SUV styling with an integrated spoiler above the rear windshield. LED taillights stretch across the tailgate.

Inside, the EX5 sports a gray and black interior, with a red strip running across the dash. The driver gets a fully digital 10.2-inch instrument cluster and a massive 13.8-inch colored touchscreen infotainment system in the center. It connects to a sound system powered by FLYME and smartphone integration care of Meizu. The infotainment system includes a smart voice command assistant that can recognize 10 languages.

The front passengers get seats with integrated speakers in the headsets to be able to fully isolate music if his passengers are sleeping. Passengers will enjoy the front seats that recline flat and clever storage solutions like drawers under the rear seat and center console. Above them is a large panoramic sunroof.

Powering the EX5 is a new short Blade Battery using LFP technology integrated into the chassis to further reduce space taken up by the battery and increase cabin room. Geely says it can charge from 30% to 80% in just 20 minutes and uses a Type 2 charger port. It’s also capable of Vehicle to Load (V2L) and Vehicle to Vehicle (V2V) charging capability.

The EX5 is a C-segment crossover and is expected to compete directly with similarly-sized EVs like the BYD Atto 3. More details about the vehicle will be revealed soon.

The 2025 Geely EX5 is now available for pre-selling. Interested customers can get up to P110,000 discount off the full price when they pay a reservation fee of P10,000.
