Director and producer Lino Cayetano is back in politics, running as Taguig's representative in Congress in the May 2025 elections.

Director Lino likened his election run to a telenovela, as his brother, Senator Alan Cayetano, supports a different candidate.

The politician-director recalled he twice gave in to his sister-in-law Laarni "Lani" Lopez Cayetano's desire to return to the position as Mayor of Taguig City in 2022 and now in 2025.

Lino expected his sister-in-law to support him in his decision to run for congressman, but the outcome was different.

"I believe that Mayor Lani and Kuya Alan have good intentions, but there are individuals with their own agendas who are trying to create conflict among us. I am known for being independent-minded among my siblings and do not simply go along with others. I carefully consider every decision," said Director Lino during a dinner for the entertainment press hosted by Roselle Monteverde of Regal Entertainment, held at Valencia Events Place in Quezon City on Feb. 17.

Lino acknowledged a disagreement with his brother Alan Peter, but he believes they will resolve their differences soon. "I hope that after the elections, we can settle everything."

He also said he might have differences with his brother but stressed he would never engage in a fight with his siblings.

Lino, 47, is the youger brother of Senators Alan Peter and Pia.

The film director first entered politics when he became the barangay captain of Fort Bonifacio. In 2016, he was elected as congressman for the second district of Taguig. In 2019, Lino successfully ran for mayor of Taguig. He is now running for congressman again, this time for District 1 of Taguig and Pateros.

Taguig was admired during the pandemic and recognized as a model city by the Department of Health, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA), and the private sector.

Apart from health centers and drive-thru testing, Taguig took the lead in vaccinations and became one of the frontrunners in re-opening movie theaters and reviving the entertainment industry.

In the film industry, Lino is recognized as a producer who values partnerships. His company, Rein Entertainment, has collaborated with ABS-CBN, iflix, GMA, and Viva. They worked on the movie "Caretakers" with Regal Entertainment scheduled to be shown this month.

“I believe in the importance of partnerships. During the pandemic, I became partners with some mayors who were not my political allies. As a producer, I witnessed that even rival productions came together for the good of the majority,” Lino said.

In "Caretakers," starring Iza Calzado and Dimples Romana, directed by Shugo Praico, director Lino emphasizes that we should all work together in the end. “We do everything not just for ourselves, but for future generations.”
