Gabriela Party-list Rep. Arlene Brosas is up in arms over what she called the "VIP treatment" of fellow senatorial candidate Pastor Apollo Quiboloy.
According to the Makabayan congresswoman, it was "double standard" to allow quiboloy to allowing him to record a campaign video while in detention.
“Kapag mahirap, kahit dumalaw ang pamilya, pahirapan. Pero kapag makapangyarihan, may privilege pang mangampanya mula sa kulungan (It's difficult for a poor man to be allowed visitors in jail, even from family members. But if you're powerful, you are given the privilege to campaign while behind bars)," Brosas said in a statement on Monday night, Feb. 17.
"Kailangang tapusin natin ang VIP treatment sa mga abusado (We must end the VIP treatment of abusive people)," she emphasized.
VIP stands for "very important person".
Quiboloy--leader and founder of the controversial Kingdom of Jesus Christ (KOJC) church--is facing charges of child abuse, sexual abuse, and human trafficking.
He is often referred to as the self-proclaimed "Appointed Son of God" and has many fanatical followers. He is the spiritual adviser of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
"Real talk: Parusa ang dapat igawad sa kanya, hindi posisyon sa gobyerno (he deserves punishment, not position in government)," Brosas said of Quiboloy.
Quiboloy is running for senator under the Duterte-chaired Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan (PDP-Laban).
