Manila Mayor Honey Lacuna-Pangan distributed financial assistance and extended a message of hope and solidarity to the families affected by two recent fire incidents in Tondo and Sta. Cruz.
Mayor Lacuna-Pangan said the residents should not blame anyone anymore and should prioritize saving lives during fires, and focus on rebuilding.
The mayor, alongside Manila Vice Mayor John Marvin "Yul Servo" Nieto and Department of Social Welfare Chief Re Fugoso, provided immediate aid to families affected by the fires that hit residential areas in Barangay 106, District 1, and Barangay 353, District 3.
"Ang pag-asang dala ng bawat tulong na ating binibigay ay patunay ng malasakit ng pamahalaan sa bawat pamilyang nangangailangan sa oras ng sakuna. Patuloy tayong magiging katuwang sa kanilang muling pagbangon. Anumang pagsubok, basta’t sama-sama, kaya natin ito (The hope brought by every assistance we give proves the government’s compassion for families in need during times of calamity. We will continue to be partners in their recovery. Whatever the challenge, as long as we are together, we can overcome this)," Fugoso said.
According to Fugoso, the local officials not only distributed financial assistance of P10,000 per affected family, but also provided essential supplies, including food boxes, hygiene kits, relief goods, and grocery items.
She also expressed gratitude to the city councilors who also pitched in additional support, including first district congressional candidate Manny Lopez, Councilors Marjun Isidro and Eugene Santiago, third district Congressman Joel Chua, and Councilor Fa Fugoso.
The fire victims were temporarily sheltered at the Andres Bonifacio Elementary School, where portable tents were also set up for immediate use.
"In the face of adversity, the local government ensures that no one is left behind and that every family affected has enough support ," the mayor assured.
