E-bike thief kills barangay tanod in Binondo, Manila

A barangay tanod in Binondo, Manila, was killed by an e-bike thief he was chasing in Binondo, Manila, early morning, Feb. 16.

The Manila Police District (MPD) identified the victim as Biazon Peton, 28, a tanod in Barangay 281 and a resident of I-Pacific Residence on Lavezares Street in Binondo.

The suspect, identified as Ivan Seltiel Domingo, 26, of Barangay 286, Binondo, was arrested. 

In a CCTV footage, the suspect was seen pushing the stolen e-bike as the barangay tanods responded. 

According to the investigation, the incident occurred at the corner of Lavezares and Sevilla Streets at around 3:45 a.m.

Reports initially indicated that the suspect had stolen an e-bike on Elcano Street, prompting a response from barangay tanods in the area, including the victim. 

The tanods spotted a man wearing a black hat, a white shirt, and slippers, pushing an e-bike along Lavezares Street.

They confronted the suspect, but he managed to escape. 

The victim and other barangay tanods ran after him. 

The victim managed to corner the suspect, but the thief drew a blade and slashed the victim’s neck before fleeing the scene. 

The victim was rushed to the hospital but was declared dead by doctors. 

The suspect was apprehended in a follow-up operation aided by CCTV footage and backtracking hours after the crime.
