The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is set to introduce a revolutionary welfare model on Tuesday, Feb. 18, during its 74th founding anniversary celebration, to transform how Filipino families are supported across the country.
DSWD spokesperson Assistant Secretary Irene Dumlao said the “Pamilya sa Bagong Pilipinas” model takes a comprehensive and rights-based approach to family welfare, combining economic, social, and cultural support to empower households at every stage.
“The Pamilya sa Bagong Pilipinas model is proposed to be the government’s main strategy for social change and empowerment that will help reduce the vulnerability of Filipino families by helping them access social protection programs and the setting up of viable community structures,” Dumlao said.
The launch will feature the Pamilya sa Bagong Pilipinas Compendium to highlight the DSWD's wide range of programs, focusing on family life transitions.
The compendium is structured around three key components—the “Bagong Pamilyang Pilipino,” “Bumabangon sa Gitna ng mga Hamon,” and “Maunlad at Matatag na Pamilya.”
The Bagong Pamilyang Pilipino component focuses on supporting families in their early stages. It offers interventions and programs for couples at the beginning of marriage or union to help establish a strong foundation.
Meanwhile, the Bumabangon sa Gitna ng mga Hamon component emphasizes social protection services to help families overcome crises and challenges. It also recognizes the diversity of family structures, including single-parent households, same-sex parent families, blended families, and adoptive or foster families.
Lastly, the Maunlad at Matatag na Pamilya component is aimed at fostering the growth and stability of Filipino families through economic empowerment programs, such as skills training, employment assistance, and financial literacy initiatives to enable families to effectively manage their resources.
