Victorias City to accommodate 500 Kanlaon evacuees

BACOLOD CITY – The Victorias City government in Negros Occidental has committed to accept 500 Kanlaon Volcano evacuees from La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.

Mayor Javier Benitez said they have internally approved a memorandum of agreement with the La Carlota city government pending the official signing with Mayor Rex Jalando-on.

“Victorias is more than willing to help, as we prepare for any eventuality regarding Kanlaon Volcano,” Benitez said.

The evacuees will stay at the city evacuation center.

La Carlota City has more than 1,000 residents affected by the Dec. 9, 2024 eruption. 

It recently signed a MOA with Silay City for a strengthened collaboration on disaster response.
