The Philippine Olympic Committee (POC) said it would help the men’s curling team to get more funding in future international stints following its historic showing in the 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China.

POC president Bambol Tolentino said the national curling association has only been recognized by the POC recently and that they have been paying their own expenses for some time.
“If we meet the President, we will make a (funding) request to support their journey to the Milano Cortina Winter Olympic Games,” said Tolentino.
“We really need that financial support to sustain them and we’re preparing for all the competitions, even the developmental stage,” he added.
The PH men’s curling team composed of Marc Pfister, Christian Haller, Enrico Pfister, Alen Frei and Benjo Delarmente arrived from China on Saturday night, Feb. 15, shortly after winning the gold medal at the expense of South Korea, 5-3. It was the country’s first-ever medal in the continental showpiece.
Tolentino said they will also request funding for other winter sports athletes like the alpine skiers, figure skaters, snowboarders, freestyle skiers, and short track speed skaters, to name a few.
Meanwhile, the PH curlers thanked the people who supported them in their journey.
“It’s a great testament to show that we as a tropical country can play the sport and make success. We made everybody proud,” said Haller.
