Philippine Esports Organization executive director Marlon Marcelo is seeing the postponement of the first-ever Esports Olympics as a welcome development as it is giving the federation enough time to prepare for the title games that would be included in the global meet.

Initially slated to happen within the year, the International Olympic Committee has decided to push back the Esports Olympics to 2027 after its partnership with Esports World Cup Federation, the organization behind the staging of the annual Esports World Cup.
Instead of the supposed 2025 staging, a qualifying circuit is expected to commence this year although its details, including which title games are included – something that PESO is already looking to get ready for.
“The two-year gap gives us ample time to prepare for whatever kinds of games it will be included in. So, we have the flexibility to move,” Marcelo.
“We just hope that, to be honest, I just hope na merong mga Esports title na malakas tayo para madali. But we will see naman kung ano yung i-announce nila, then we follow through,” added the esports chief.
PESO stressed that it remains committed in sending the best esports athletes that country has, especially in the mobile games where Filipinos are known to be very good at.
For now, Marcelo said that PESO is shifting its focus to other tournaments in the upcoming International Esports Sports Federation (IESF) World Esports Championships and the Southeast Asian Games.
“Definitely, for now, this year, it's more of making sure that we win yung gold sa IESF, men and women,” said Marcelo
And then next is, of course, yung gold dominance natin sa SEA Games. Hopefully, yung women natin makabawi din sa Indonesia. So, it's really just making sure that we don't fall off on the podium,” he stressed
