If you recently got a new Mac, then I'd like to share my must-have apps with you! After I set up my new Mac, I install these apps right away and make sure to keep them up to date. Here's a quick rundown of them:
Tot: This is my go-to text scratchpad. Sometimes I use it to temporarily store generated passwords (I have a handy shortcut for that) for new accounts before I add them to my password manager. Other times, I use it to write articles, like this one!
SpamSieve: This is a must-have Mail plug-in to help me manage all those pesky email spam.
iWork: Apple's productivity suite, including Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.
Firefox, DuckDuckGo, Zen, Orion: I always have at least one other browser for the irresponsibly-developed websites that only support Chrome. (I don't use anything based on Chromium)
Fmail: Yep, not Gmail. Fmail is a third-party application for FastMail.com, a mail service that I subscribe to.
Signal: My go-to messaging app for those who aren't on iMessage. If you don't have this, you should definitely download and create an account now!
1Password: I use the built-in password manager, but I also have this as a backup. 1Password has a few more features that are not available on Apple's password manager.
NetNewsWire: My favorite RSS reader. Available on iOS, iPadOS and macOS, and fully 100% free and open source!
GoodLinks: A read-later/bookmarking application. I use this to save recipes, articles, link to PDFs, or things that comes with a URL.
Play: An application for managing YouTube videos. I use its basic, free features as a watch-later/bookmarking application for YouTube videos that I download using yt-dlp.
These are the apps that I install first. What are your must-have apps for a new Mac?
