DILG welcomes Maldives delegates, exchange views on strategic local governance

Officials of the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) met with their counterparts from Maldives and share experience and expertise in carrying out an efficient local governance scheme and public consultation strategy.
DILG Assistant Secretary for International Relations Lilian M. de Leon, DILG Bureau of Local Government Supervision (BLGS) Director Debie T. Torres and BGLS-Local Government Relations chief Diana M. Baldonado received the Maldives delegates at the DILG Central Office in Quezon City where a learning session on alternative engagement strategies in the Maldives were shared.
Director General Shammoon Adam and Minister of State, Cities, Local Government and Public Works, Mohamed Mahir led the Maldives delegation in Alternative Public Engagement Strategies for Local Councils in the Maldives: Lessons from the Philippines visit.
During the interaction, the DILG also shared with the Maldives groups its major programs such as the Seal of Good Local Governance (SGLG) and Citizen Satisfaction Index System of the Bureau of Local Government Supervision, Decentralization of the Office of Local Government Development (BLGD), and Monitoring of the Office of the Project Development Services (OPDS).
In the said meeting, the Local Government Academy (LGA) also tackled the schemes pertaining to its mandates as the training arm of the DILG.
The interaction allows the Maldives delegates to have a glimpse of the local governance strategies with similar archipelagic geography countries like the Philippines.
Aside from the DILG, the Union of Local Authorities of the Philippines (ULAP) and Philippine Councilors League (PCL) are also partners in the said program.
