The Philippine men’s curling team stands to receive a P2 million cash incentive from the government following its victorious feat in the recent 9th Asian Winter Games in Harbin, China.

Under Republic Act No. 10699 also known as “Sports Benefits and Incentives Act of 2001,” individual gold medalists for Asian Games, Asian Winter Games and Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games are entitled to receive the said amount, “with competitions with five or more participants per team stand to receive 25 percent of the cash incentives for individual medal winners as herein provided.”
The team of Alan Frei, Enrico Pfister, Christian Haller, Marc Pfister, and Benjo Delarmente made heads turn in the said continental showpiece after stunning South Korea, 5-3, for the historic gold medal.
It marked the first time that the country won a medal in the said multisport event.
The team is set to arrive in the country on Saturday night where they will be welcomed by Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) Chairman Richard Bachmann, Commissioner Bong Co and Executive Director Paulo Francisco Tatad.
“The historic victory of the country in the men’s curling marks a significant milestone in the growing dynamics of Philippine sports,” said Bachmann in a statement.
With the victory, the country is geared towards future participation in the Winter Olympics and world-level competitions. The team is actually set to participate in the Pan-Continental Curling Championships Division A in November for a chance to gain a ticket to the World Cup.
