The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) said Saturday, Feb. 15, that it will build a docking facility and sheltering area for its vessels in Bataan.
This, as the PCG received a donation of 20 hectares of land from the local government unit of Abucay.
PCG Commandant, Admiral Ronnie Gil Gavan and Abucay Mayor Ruben Tagle formalized the transfer of the lot through the signing of a deed of usufruct at the PCG national headquarters in Port Area, Manila earlier this week.
Once completed, the lot would be designated for the development of the PCG Base Fleet, which will be equipped to accommodate the arrival of incoming PCG vessels.
“[T]he land will be utilized as a docking facility and sheltering area for PCG vessels, supporting the deployment of personnel and equipment while enhancing the PCG's operations to secure the country's territorial waters,” Gavan said.
For his part, Tagle said the initiative would enhance the security and development in Abucay. He said the PCG would also build a port, housing facilities, and an academy on the donated lot.
