Police Col. Enrico Figueroa, chief of the Cebu City Police Office, said this as more police outposts have been established primarily in crime-prone areas here.
As part of the efforts to increase police visibility, Figueroa said at least 30 police outposts have already been mounted in the entire city.
Aside from mounting police outposts, beat patrols were also deployed in places that usually attract huge crowds.
Figueroa said these outposts will be manned by two policemen 24 hours a day. Policemen manning the outposts are equipped with two-way radio and megaphone.
Each outpost will also have blinkers to enable the public to easily spot them in case of emergencies.
Figueroa said one of the policemen assigned in the outpost will patrol within the vicinity while the other one will man the post.
He thanked the city government led by Mayor Raymond Alvin Garcia for supporting the program meant to curb crimes.
“If not for the support of our mayor, we cannot realize this program,” said Figueroa.
Figueroa expressed confidence that these outposts will help bring down crimes in this city.
He cited an incident in Barangay Talamban where two policemen manning an outpost were able to respond to a theft incident.
The quick response led to the recovery of a necklace worth P120,000 snatched from an old man on M.L. Quezon St.
Figueroa said the CCPO is also planning to add more police vehicles for mobile patrolling.
The CCPO said drones will also be used in the city’s intensified anti-criminality campaign.
The measures being taken by the CCPO were in response to the directive of Police Regional Office-Central Visayas chief Police Brig. Gen. Redrico Maranan who has instructed city and provincial commanders that policemen should be visible on the streets to deter crimes.
