Two-time Olympic gold medalist Carlos Yulo received another accolade as the Manila Bulletin recognized him as one of its 2025 Newsmaker of the Year honorees. His outstanding performance at the Olympics boosted the country’s medal count and inspired aspiring athletes to pursue their passion for sports.

Carlos Yulo has become a shining symbol of determination and resilience in gymnastics. As one of the Philippines’ renowned athletes, his journey from a young boy with big dreams to an Olympic champion is a testament to his dedication and passion for the sport.
Yulo made history when he became the first Filipino gymnast to win a gold medal at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in 2019. His exceptional performance in the floor exercise earned him global recognition and paved the way for more victories. In the 2024 Paris Olympics, he further solidified his legacy by clinching two gold medals in the men’s floor exercise and vault events, a feat never before accomplished by a Filipino gymnast.
As part of Manila Bulletin’s 125th-anniversary celebration, the second Newsmakers Award ceremony was held at the Manila Hotel Tent City on February 10, 2025. Carlos Yulo was honored as one of the awardees. DigiPlus, one of the fastest-growing digital entertainment companies in the Philippines, co-presented the award. Upon receiving the recognition, he dedicated it to his fellow Filipino athletes and to all Filipinos who supported and prayed for him throughout his Olympic journey.

His unwavering dedication and exceptional talent have earned him a spot among Manila Bulletin’s Newsmakers of the Year—an athlete who embodies Filipino excellence on the global stage.
In his acceptance speech, Yulo expressed his gratitude to Manila Bulletin for the recognition and thanked the President of the Gymnastics Association of the Philippines, Cynthia Carreon, who accompanied him at the event. He also expressed how blessed and honored he felt to receive the award and to have the unwavering support of his countrymen.
“Sa lahat po ng nagdasal, sumubaybay, nagpuyat, sumuporta po sa’kin noong Olympics, sa aming mga atletang Pilipino—maraming, maraming salamat po sa inyong lahat. Para sa atin po ito.” (To everyone who prayed, closely followed the competition, stayed up late, and supported me and my fellow Filipino athletes during the Olympics—thank you very much. This is for all of us.)
Yulo’s relentless determination and passion stand as a testament to resilience and serve as a source of pride for the nation. Through his pursuit of excellence, he overcomes challenges and inspires many Filipinos to keep striving toward their goals. His achievements on the global stage reflect the strength, determination, and indomitable spirit of the Filipino people.
