The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology reported that ash emission from the summit crater of Kanlaon Volcano occurred at 2:32 p.m. and lasted eight minutes based on seismic and infrasound records.
The event generated a grayish plume that rose 1,500 meters above the summit crater before drifting to the general west based on IP camera recordings on the southern side of the edifice.
Phivolcs alerted residents of Barangays Abuanan, Binubuhan, Dulao, Ilijan, Ma-ao, and Mailum in Bago City.
Mayor Nicholas Yulo on Facebook confirmed the ashfall in Barangay Mailum and netizens posted photos on social media.
Yulo advised residents, especially those residing in the barangay and nearby areas, to take necessary precautions.
“Please keep your face masks on, stay indoors when possible, and keep emergency supplies ready,” he added.
Yulo said that the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management is closely monitoring the situation.
He assured that the city government remains vigilant in ensuring the safety of the people.
This ash emission happened nine days after a minor explosion on Feb. 6. It was part of the series of emissions since the Dec. 9, 2024 explosive eruption that displaced thousands of residents in four localities in Negros Island.
Alert Level 3 prevails over Kanlaon Volcano.
