Four schools led by University of Santo Tomas and Far Eastern University begin their respective campaigns on Saturday, Feb. 15, when the UAAP Season 87 volleyball tournament fires off at the Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Last year’s runners-up Golden Tigresses start their redemption tour -- but without the services of Jonna Perdido and Xyza Gula -- when they clash with the Lady Tamaraws at 3 p.m., after University of the East Lady Warriors and the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons collide at 1 p.m.
Raising the curtain are the men’s collision between UE and UP at 9 a.m., followed by FEU against UST at 11 a.m.
The absence of Perdido and Gula to injuries was a crucial blow to UST’s bid, but skipper Detdet Pepito is confident they can still pull off impressive performances this season. After all, their team remains intact as last season’s.
“Talaga pini-prepare nalang namin ang mga sarili namin, sa mga gano’ng sitwasyon… syempre marami paring kulang talaga, pero kailangan namin ‘yon mapunan this season,” said Pepito.
“Kasi re-building ulit kami, half of the team puro rookies ulit katulad last year, so at the same ‘yong core namin ando’n parin… hopefully madala namin ‘yong experience namin this season,” she added.
Joining Pepito at the frontline are rising star Angge Poyos, Regina Jurado, Cassie Carballo and Marga Altea.
“Hopefully, umabot [ulit kami] sa Final Four tapos may mga rookies din kami [na magpapasiklab],” said UST coach Kungfu Reyes,
For FEU, which lost in the Final Four to eventual champion National University, coach Tina Salak is also optimistic of her wards in Tin Ubaldo, Chenie Tagaod, Faida Bakanke, Gerz Petallo, Jean Asis, and Jaz Ellarina.
"Syempre iba na yung mindset ngayon and yung training dynamics. We're looking forward for a better finish this time," said Salak.
