No love for rogue cops: Marbil says PNP won't tolerate officers tagged in dubious Taguig search

Philippine National Police (PNP) Chief, General Rommel Francisco Marbil said the organization will not condone any misconduct of its personnel as he ordered a thorough and impartial investigation on 10 cops allegedly involved in a warrantless search operation in Taguig City last week.
In a statement Thursday, Feb. 13, the national police chief said any personnel found guilty of misconduct would be held fully accountable.
“The PNP is committed to upholding the highest standards of discipline and professionalism. Any actions that violate police operational procedures and the rights of our citizens will not be tolerated, and appropriate sanctions will be imposed,” Marbil stated.
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) earlier relieved 10 members of the Taguig City Police Sub-Station 5, including its commander, over the controversial operation. The NCRPO is also investigating the head of the Taguig City Police, Col. Joey Goforth, for command responsibility.
According to the NCRPO, the officers allegedly entered the house of a woman in Barangay Tipas last Sunday, Feb. 9, without presenting a search warrant and while in plain clothes. The woman had been acquitted and released over drug-related charges in 2022.
The cops were also accused by the victim of assaulting her 14-year-old son and forcibly taking her cellular phone.
The NCRPO said the officers are facing a string of cases that include robbery, grave coercion, physical injury, obstruction of justice, malicious mischief, unlawful arrest, violations of domicile, and special protection against child abuse.
Marbil assured the public that a comprehensive yet expeditious investigation is ongoing to determine the facts of the incident, identify lapses on the part of the operatives, and establish accountability.
He said those found to have committed violations will face administrative sanctions “which may include dismissal, demotion, or suspension.” He added that criminal charges would also be pursued in coordination with the concerned parties.
“As law enforcers, we are duty-bound to uphold the rule of law and protect the rights of every individual. This investigation is not just about accountability but also about reinforcing public trust in the PNP,” Marbil noted.
Meanwhile, the PNP chief directed all police units nationwide to strengthen adherence to operational procedures and ethical standards to prevent similar incidents in the future.
He reaffirmed the PNP’s commitment to transparency and professionalism, ensuring that every action taken serves the best interests of the public.
