Man wanted for theft nabbed after gun scuffle with cop

A man wanted for a theft case was nabbed after a gun scuffle with one of the arresting officers in Quezon City on Thursday, Feb. 13, the Quezon City Police District (QCPD) said.

The suspect was apprehended in his residence on the strength of a warrant of arrest issued by the Metropolitan Trial Court (MeTC) in Quezon City for theft.

Police identified the suspect as Mark Ed Lanot, 44, a resident of Brgy. Kaligayahan, Quezon City.

Prior to his arrest, the police officers noticed a firearm tucked in his waist. He was instructed to surrender.

The suspect was eventually subdued and brought to the nearest hospital for treatment.

Records from the Investigation Solution Automatic Verification (ISAV) revealed that the suspect had been charged for violation of Republic Act (RA) 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002 in June 2019.

The suspect will be charged with direct assault and for violation of RA 10591 (The Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and B.P. 881 (Omnibus Election Code) in relation to Comelec Resolution No. 10728.
