ILOILO CITY--A last-minute schedule change saved administration senatorial candidate Panfilo "Ping" Lacson from missing Valentine’s Day with his wife, which would have been a "problematic" scenario.
The administration-backed Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas Senate slate held its second campaign sortie here Thursday, Feb. 13. But it almost happened on Valentine’s Day, Feb. 14, according to Lacson.
"Dati ang sked namin, (Feb.) 14 dito, (Feb.) 16 sa Davao. Lahat kami di kumikibo (Our original schedule was Feb. 14 here, Feb. 16 in Davao. All of us didn't react)," Lacson said in a press conference Thursday, as if to say that the entire Alyansa slate had reservations about holding a rally on Valentine’s Day.
That would mean that the candidates won't be able to celebrate then occasion with their respective spouses or significant others.
"Kaya ginawang 13 dito, 15 sa Davao. Dahil kung wala kami sa bahay sa 14, medyo malaki ang problema namin. Happy Valentine’s sa lahat," Lacson said tongue-in-cheek.
(That's why they made it 13 here, and 15 in Davao. Because if we're not at home by the 14th, that would be a big problem for us. Happy Valentine’s to all.)
Valentine’s Day is arguably the most important occasion on the calendar for Filipinos, next to Christmas.
In his message to Filipinos on Friday, Lacson said: "Huwag din po nating kalimutan ang pagmamahal sa kapwa Pilipino at lalong lalong na, sa ating bayan."
(Let's not forget to show love to our fellow Filipinos and most importantly, to our nation.)
