PAGASA warns of flash floods, landslides as persistent rains affect several areas
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, Feb. 13 continued to warn of possible flash floods and landslides in several areas due to moderate to heavy rains caused by three weather systems.
PAGASA said the shear line, Intertropical Convergence Zone (ITCZ), and easterlies remain to be the dominant weather systems affecting the country.
Cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms are expected over Batanes and Babuyan Islands due to the shear line, which forms when cold winds from the northeast monsoon (amihan) collide with warm breezes from the Pacific Ocean (easterlies).
Similar conditions will likely persist in Caraga, Davao Region, Camiguin, Misamis Oriental, and Bukidnon due to the ITCZ, or the convergence of winds from the northern and southern hemispheres.
The easterlies will also bring cloudy skies, scattered rains, and thunderstorms across the Visayas, Bicol Region, and Romblon.
Meanwhile, the impact of the easterlies is expected to remain minimal in Metro Manila and the rest of the country, with only isolated rain showers anticipated.
