NCRPO endorses string of criminal charges vs 10 cops in viral Taguig 'warrantless' operation

The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) has endorsed a complaint containing a string of criminal charges before the Department of Justice (DOJ) against the 10 Taguig City policemen in the viral “warrantless” operation in a house of a local resident.

NCRPO director Brig. Gen. Anthony A. Aberin said their immediate action on the viral video is proof that they neither tolerate nor turn a blind eye on the concerns raised by the public, particularly netizens.

But he said the endorsement of charges of Robbery, Grave Coercion, Physical Injury, Obstruction of Justice, Malicious Mischief, Republic ACT 7610, Unlawful Arrest, and Violation of Domicile were a result of a thorough and impartial investigation into the incident.

“The charges forwarded against each respondent are based on their individual illegal actions committed and degree of participation in the illegitimate operation,” said Aberin.

Aberin earlier ordered the relief of the 10 policemen when the video of the incident went viral on social media.

Aberin said the forwarded complaints will be scrutinized and evaluated by the DOJ to determine if there is prima facie evidence that can lead to certainty of conviction in each forwarded case.

He added that the involved police officers will face an administrative investigation to determine liability while ensuring compliance with the requirement of due process of law to all parties.

“In all these processes, NCRPO commits that everyone will be given their opportunity to present their side pursuant to due process of law, equity and justice,” said Aberin.

Aberin assured the public that the NCRPO prepared airtight cases based on the pieces of evidence uncovered during the investigation.

If substantial evidence is found that transgressions against PNP rules were committed, Aberin said the policemen involved will be dismissed, demoted or suspended, depending on the degree of their participation in the illegal act.

“The NCRPO leadership has already warned police officers to toe the line, adhere to the Police Operational Procedures and do their job right.  Any violation of law will not be tolerated and those who violate will face the full force of the law,” said Aberin.

“Let us give to the people the police service they rightly deserve-competent, credible and rule-based policing,” he added.
