Nineteen areas – 10 in Agusan del Sur and nine in Surigao del Sur – are under the orange category that indicate armed threats due to multiple risk factors, including past election-related incidents.
“These areas have recorded incidents in the last two elections, making them most priority zones for security measures,” PRO-13 Director Police Brig. Gen. Christopher N. Abrahano said. “So far, so good no untoward incident reported during the first day of campaigning.”
Ten other areas were classified under yellow category due to intense political rivalries – five in Surigao del Norte, three in Surigao del Sur, and one each in Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur.
“But no area in the five provinces and six cities in Caraga region falls under the red category’ (critically and serious concern),” said PRO 13-Regional Public Information Office chief Police Major Jennifer S. Ometer.
The PRO-13 arrested 16 gun ban violators and seized 15 firearms from Jan. 12 to Feb. 11.
“Our mobile checkpoints strategically positioned in different areas in the region helped a lot in deterring crime, especially during election period,” Ometer said.
More than 6,100 PRO-13 personnel were mobilized for the elections in the region.
