Survey results from both Social Weather Stations (SWS) and Pulse Asia last month vindicate the House of Representatives on their stand regarding the Ayuda para sa Kapos ang Kita Program (AKAP).

Thus, said House "Young Guns" bloc member, Assistant Majority Leader Taguig Party-list Rep. Pammy Zamora, as she cited that 80 percent to 90 percent of the survey respondents said AKAP and other programs have helped ease their financial burden.

“Well, personally masayang-masaya ako sa survey na ‘yan kasi it vindicates what we've always said na itong mga issues patungkol sa ayuda ay pawang ingay lamang at talaga namang hinahanap ito ng taumbayan,” Zamora said.

(Well, personally I'm very happy with this survey because it vindicates what we've always said these issues regarding financial assistance were just noise, and that the people are yearning for it.)

“Kasi ‘yung 4Ps, diniderekta ‘yan para sa talagang mga sa poorest of the poor. Ito namang AKAP ay nakadirekta para sa mga near-poor na isa ring malaking porsyento ng ating populasyon. Kaya masaya kami na ‘yan ang lumabas sa survey kasi ito naman ay bagay na talagang pinaniwalaan namin noon pa man,” she said.

(It's because 4Ps is directly being given to the poorest of the poor. Meanwhile, this AKAP is intended for the near-poor who also comprise a large part of the population. As such, we're happy with that survey because it says something that we believe in even before.

In the SWS survey, 90 percent of respondents said the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) has been helpful to them. Some 88 percent said the same for the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program.

4Ps and AKAP are being implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development while TUPAD is administered by the Department of Labor and Employment.

In the same SWS poll, 81 percent of respondents said AKAP and Walang Gutom Program have helped them.

On the other hand, the Pulse Asia survey showed 82 percent of respondents said 4Ps “improved the financial stability of Filipinos from the lower social class".

The same percentage of those polled declared TUPAD was “beneficial to the overall well-being of the Filipino people by providing livelihood and ensuring employment".

Some 81 percent said AKAP benefited them by easing their financial burden.

As opposed to the other "ayuda" programs, AKAP, has been described as a social intervention program for the middle class.

The SWS survey was conducted last Jan. 17 to 20, while the Pulse Asia poll was taken from Jan. 18 to 25.
