The Land Transportation Office (LTO) ordered the revocation of the driver’s license of a motovlogger who survived the fatal road accident along Marilaque Road in Tanay, Rizal after performing the “Superman stunt” using his motorcycle.
LTO Chief, Assistant Secretary Vigor D. Mendoza II said the decision was based on the investigation which found Rico Akmad Buyawan liable for reckless driving and guilty of the administrative case of improper person to operate a motor vehicle.
Buyawan survived the motorcycle road accident with fellow motovlogger John Louie Arguelles on Jan. 28, the video of the accident went viral on social media.
Buyawan and Arguelles were performing the dangerous stunt when their motorcycle collided. The crash killed Arguelles and injured six other riders who were then resting alongside the road.
“The driver’s license that the government is issuing to the motorists is a privilege that comes with a responsibility that those who would get it would observe road safety and be a responsible driver at all times,” said Mendoza.
“Let this serve as a lesson to all the motorists, especially motorcycle riders, that public roads are not the proper place to perform such dangerous stunts because you are putting the lives of road users at risk,” he added.
Buyawan was summoned by the LTO to explain his side as part of the due process, according to Mendoza.
During the course of the probe, LTO investigators established that there was a case of reckless driving and that Buyawan is not fit to operate a motor vehicle.
This led to the decision to revoke his driver’s license.
Both the LTO and the Philippine National Police already initiated measures to reclaim Marilaque Road from what they described as irresponsible motorcycle riders.
