Justice for Dr. Gaspar: DepEd condemns killing of Sulu education official
By Jel Santos

The Department of Education (DepEd) on Tuesday, Feb. 11, condemned the fatal shooting of Dr. Sonatria D. Gaspar, the assistant schools division superintendent of Sulu, and called for swift justice against those responsible for the crime.
“We extend our sincerest condolences to her family, friends, colleagues, and the grieving community she has left behind,” DepEd said in a statement.
Gaspar was a dedicated education official whose service, according to DepEd, “inspired thousands of learners and countless colleagues.”
“Her senseless passing robs us of her contributions. This violence steals futures of potential impact, leaving an absence that will be profoundly felt,” the agency said.
The education department said that the attack on Gaspar was an attack on the education system itself.
“This has no place in our learning spaces, in our communities, and in our society,” DepEd said.
DepEd reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety and protection of educators nationwide.
“We join our colleagues in BARMM in calling for swift justice and accountability,” the statement added.
DepEd stated that it is coordinating with Gaspar’s family and colleagues to extend assistance.
As such, DepEd vowed to continue working with the Ministry of Basic, Higher, and Technical Education (MBHTE) to foster a peaceful learning environment in the region.
“Our shared mission is bigger than this violence,” the agency said. “May her legacy inspire us all to work towards an education free from force and fear.”
