The incident that went viral on social media caused a commotion outside a supermarket in Barangay Mabolo here on Sunday night, Feb. 9.
Police did not reveal the identities of the personalities involved.
Police Major Miles Damoslog, chief of the Guadalupe Police Station, said they received an initial report that a woman had been kidnapped here.
Damoslog said they later discovered that the incident involved a man and a woman who were described as “close friends.”
Prior to the incident, Damoslog said the two friends were with another female friend in an establishment where they played board games.
Aboard a car driven by the man, the two friends then brought their companion to her home in Barangay Banawa here.
As the two were about to drive off after dropping off their friend, the man confronted the woman about why it appeared she was closer with their friend.
They figured in an argument and the situation escalated when the man handcuffed the woman and covered her mouth with duct tape.
The man drove around until they reached Mandaue City.
The man then stopped the vehicle to buy water. It was there that the woman was able to find an opportunity to call her sibling over the phone and sought help.
The woman’s relatives were able to trace the woman’s relatives using the Google Maps. The relatives discovered that the woman was in Mandaue.
The Police Station 2 of the Mandaue City Police Office was immediately alerted.
Police tailed the vehicle carrying the woman. The vehicle reached Cardinal Rosales Ave., Barangay Mabolo, Cebu City when police moved in and rescued the woman. The woman was still handcuffed when she was rescued.
“The suspect went on tantrum. She confronted the woman about why it looked like she was closer with their friend when they came to know each other first,” Damoslog said.
Damoslog said the two were plain friends. The victim’s family is determined to file charges for illegal detention against the suspect.
