Potential witnesses vs impeached VP Duterte being 'lined up'--Chua

The House prosecution team is now "lining up potential witnesses" against Vice President Sara Duterte for her upcoming Senate impeachment trial.

This was bared by Manila 3rd district Rep. Joel Chua in a statement Monday, Feb. 10, wherein he shared details of the 11-person prosecution panel's preparations for the impeachment trial.

Aside from vetting possible witnesses, the congressman-prosecutors are also reviewing the existing evidence, securing additional documentary records to buttress and complete the evidence, and coordinating with financial agencies for further investigation.

"Right now, kasi nakatutok po kami dito sa preparation (we're focusing on the preparations)," Chua, a member of the prosecution team, said in a press conference on Monday.

“The recess does not stop our work. The prosecutors are reviewing evidence, gathering testimonies, and ensuring that we are ready once the Senate acts,” he stressed.

"Ako ay naniniwala na malakas po ang ebidensya upang siya po ay ma-convict (I believe that the evidence is strong for conviction)," added the legislator from Manila and chairman of the House Committee on Good Government and Public Accountability.

Both chambers of Congress went on recess last Feb. 5, after the House directly trasmitted to the Senate an impeachment complaint against the Vice President that was endorsed by 215 congressmen.

Much of the articles of impeachment levelled against Vice President Duterte were discussed as findings by the Chua-led committee during its series of hearings last year on the Office of the Vice President (OVP) and Department of Education (DepEd).

The six major allegations contained in the seven articles of impeachment within the 33-page complaint are conspiracy to assassinate President Marcos; malversation of P612.5 million in confidential funds; bribery and corruption in Department of Education (DepEd); unexplained wealth and failure to disclose assets; involvement in extrajudicial killings (Davao Death Squad); and destabilization, insurrection, and public disorder.
