PBA unveils new logo clad in gold for 50th anniversary celebration

PBA commissioner Willie Marcial, along with the members of the board led by chairman and TNT governor Ricky Vargas, vice chairman and SMC Sports director Alfrancis Chua, spearheaded the unveiling of the new logo along with the other programs in the pipeline in the lead-up to the league's birthday on April 9 and the formal opening of its 50th season on Oct. 5.

Set to be the highlight of the expected year-long celebration of the league is the addition of 10 new players to the PBA Greatest Players list and the 50th season opening ceremony where the league intends to invite and honor the players of the past and those who paved the way since its inception in 1975.

In between of the two big events are the PBA All-Stars set in Davao Del Norte from May 3 to 5 and the return of the league's pre-pandemic projects like the ‘Home Court' where PBA stars surprise fans and hold clinics in local barangay courts nationwide.

All of these are just the first steps to the league's efforts to build a new PBA and become the best entertainment basketball league in Asia in the next 50 years.

“While we're all very excited about all these events that are going to happen, there's one thing that is very clear sa lahat ng narinig ninyo and that’s we are going to reach out to the community, we are going to reach out to the basketball fans, and we will make and we will redefine our relationship with basketball fans and we will redefine our team's relationship with the public,” said Vargas during the event at the TV5 Launchpad in Mandaluyong City on Monday, Feb. 10.

“Ang unang tanong namin dun is ano bang gusto nating gawin in the next 50 years? So we said, why don't we relaunch the PBA? But what will the PBA be? Sino ba ang PBA? What do we envision the next 50 years to be? Di ba? More of the same? Or something new that only the Filipino can enjoy?,” he added.

“Because we believe that we are a Filipino basketball organization. So sabi namin, just with one very short statement, that the PBA, ito yung vision namin, we'd like the PBA to be the number one basketball entertainment league in Asia,” he declared.

The new logo will be patched to the uniforms of the league personnel, referees, and teams beginning the semifinals.
