PetroGreen's Isabela solar project secures grid connection, eyes December completion

Yuchengco-led PetroGreen Energy Corporation's (PGEC) Limbauan Solar Power Project (LSPP) in Isabela province has received transmission connection approval from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP).

In a statement on Monday, Feb. 10, PGEC said LSPP's phase two received the green light to connect its facility to the grid, which will help advance its development and keep it on track for completion by December.

After getting NGCP’s approval last January, it would be able to connect to the Tuguegarao-Cabagan 69-kilovolt (kV) transmission system.

Maria Victoria Olivar, PGEC’s vice president for business development, commended the stakeholders who helped them push through the developments, including the Department of Energy (DOE), the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), NGCP, Isabela II Electric Cooperative (ISELCO II), and the provincial government of Isabela.

“With these milestones achieved and the pending approval of the PSA [power supply agreement] with the ERC [Energy Regulatory Commission], BKSGEC [BKS Green Energy Corporation] will be able to fast-track the development and completion of both LSPP-1 and LSPP-2. LSPP-2 is a qualified solar project under the Green Energy Auction 2 (GEA-2),” she said.

The 33.831-megawatt-peak (MWp) LSPP is a joint venture between PGEC and Japan-based Taisei Corporation.

Furthermore, NGCP's approval followed the project's certification as an Energy Project of National Significance by the DOE last November.

The project also received a system impact study in September 2024, along with approval for its distribution impact study, distribution asset study, and connection agreement from ISELCO II for the five-megawatt alternating current (MWac) phase one of LSPP.

“A PSA for LSPP-1, signed between ISELCO II and BKSGEC and endorsed by the National Electrification Administration (NEA), was jointly filed by the two parties in June 2021 and is pending approval from the ERC,” PGEC added.
