New kakampink: Comedian Alex Calleja joins Kiko-Bam campaign

Celebrity kakampinks are joining hands again for the election campaign of senatorial candidates Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan and Bam Aquino, with comedian Alex Calleja hosting the proclamation rally set on Tuesday, Feb. 11, in Dasmariñas City, Cavite.

Calleja, whose Netflix documentary is now the number one program in the country, will host the event alongside television host Robi Domingo, who was also a mainstay of former vice president Leni Robredo’s 2022 campaign rallies.

The comedian, in particular, said he considers Aquino a personal friend and while his credentials speak for itself, it was the fact that he has done so much for the country that should compel Filipinos to put him back to the Senate.

“Simplehan ko lang.  Wag na natin pag-usapan ang mga credentials dahil subok na natin ang taong ito bilang isang senador.  Papaliwanag ko na lang bakit sinusuportahan ko siya (I’ll make this simple. Let’s not talk about credentials because this person is a tried-and-tested senator. I’ll just explain why I’m supporting him),” he wrote on X (formerly Twitter).

He shared that he knows Aquino personally and he can vouch for his character as a friend, co-worker, father, and husband.

“Sa panahon ngayon, may mga kandidato tayo at kung ok siya sayo, karapatan mo yan at walang pakialamanan. Dose naman ang kailangang manalo (In times like this, we all have our own choice for candidates and if he’s okay to you, it’s your right and let’s not meddle. There are 12 who need to win anyway),” Calleja said in his post.

“Basta ako, OK sa akin si Senator Bam Aquino (For me, Senator Bam Aquino is okay!),” he added.

But a comedian to the core, he could not help but throw in a joke as he pushed for Aquino’s candidacy.

He signed his post “Alex Calleja, Ulo ng (head of) B.A.Y.A.G,” which he said stands for “Bam Aquino Youth Action Group.”

Bayag is the Tagalog word for testicles, but in Filipino culture, it also means courage and guts.

A Pulse Asia survey conducted from Jan. 18 to 25, showed Pangilinan at the 15th to 16th place, while Aquino at the 15th to 18th place, with a 29.1 and 27.4 percent, respectively, of respondents voting for them.

Aquino and Pangilinan will launch their campaign rally from the Dasmariñas Arena on Tuesday, Feb. 11, the first day of the campaign period.

Robredo and Senator Risa Hontiveros will join them, while Megastar Sharon Cuneta, Parokya ni Edgar, and other celebrities are expected to take the stage.
