Mangudadatu replaces carabao killed by plane crash

DAVAO CITY – Former Maguindanao Gov. Esmael “Toto” Mangudadatu donated a carabao to a farmer who lost her farm companion to a plane crash in Ampatuan, Maguindanao del Sur on Feb. 6.

Mangudadatu personally delivered the carabao to Bainola Akang in Barangay Malatimon on Sunday, Feb. 9, according to a Facebook post by his son King Jhazzer.

Akang’s carabao was hit on the snout when a US-contracted Beech Super King Air 350-B300 crashed on a rice field and almost hit a house in Barangay Malatimon, about eight kilometers east of the town proper.

The US Indo-Pacific Command (USIndoPaCom) confirmed on Feb. 7 that four crew were killed in the air accident.

USIndoPaCom added the ill-fated aircraft was conducting intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) support to the Philippine military when it crashed.

Bainola was in tears in media interviews while asking for help to replace her carabao since it has been her companion in working in their farm, their only source of livelihood.

Reports said the carabao left a young calf. Pictures and videos of the severely injured carabao went viral following the incident.

The younger Mangudadatu added that her father took the female carabao from their own herd.

“Napakalaking tulong para kay Babu Bairada at sa kanyang pamilya ang magkaroon ng bagong kalabaw upang makapagsimula muli at maipagpatuloy ang kanilang hanapbuhay,” King Jhazzer wrote on his Facebook page.

He also posted a picture of a handwritten Deed of Donation signed by his father.
