House Deputy Minority Leader Mamayang Liberal (ML) Party-list Rep. Leila de Lima took to Facebook to congratulate Krystel Go for making history during the recent 51st Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) awards.
"Congratulations, Krystel Go! You made history as the first actress with Down syndrome to win Best Actress at the Metro Manila Film Festival," De Lima wrote in a recent post.
"As a mother and grandmother of children on the autism spectrum, this victory touches my heart even more. It is a reminder that with trust, support, and equal opportunities, the talents of persons with disabilities can truly shine," said the former senator.
"But beyond awards, the true recognition we can give is genuine respect for their rights and sustained support for their needs—in education, health, employment, and meaningful participation in society," added De Lima.
Go played the lead role in MMFF 2025 entry "I'mPerfect". It was written and directed by Sigrid Andrea Bernardo.
The movie is about two with individuals with Down syndrome who fall in love, and explores themes of independence, love, and acceptance against societal norms.
