Veteran Korean actor Ahn Sung-ki was rushed to a hospital on Dec. 30 after suffering cardiac arrest.
The 73-year-old film actor, who was diagnosed with blood cancer in 2019, was found in cardiac arrest at his home around 4 p.m. KST on Dec. 30 after choking on food while eating. He was rushed to a hospital and is in intensive care. He is in critical condition, Korean media reported.
“Senior Ahn Sung-ki was transferred to the hospital due to a sudden deterioration in his health and is currently receiving treatment under the guidance of medical staff,” his agency, Artist Company, told Korean media outlet Osen.
The agency added, “We are currently confirming the exact condition and future course of action based on the medical team's judgment. We ask that you consider the stability of the actor and his family as the top priority, and if any additional information is confirmed, we will notify you through official channels."
Upon hearing about his father’s condition, his son, who lives in the US, will be returning to South Korea.
Among his films are "Unbowed," "Hansan: Rising Dragon," "Cassiopeia," "The Divine Fury," "The Hunt" and "Revivre."
He is a recipient of the Korean government's Bogwan Order of Cultural Merit and Eungwan Order of Cultural Merit.
