The shear line, northeast monsoon or “amihan,” and the easterlies are expected to bring rains, isolated thunderstorms, and gusty winds over parts of the country during the New Year celebration from Dec. 31 to Jan. 1, 2026, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
In its Special Weather Outlook for New Year 2026, the state weather bureau said that on Wednesday, Dec. 31, the shear line will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms over Quezon and Camarines Norte.
PAGASA said partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains will prevail over Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), Cagayan Valley, and Central Luzon due to the amihan.
The agency also said that the rest of the Bicol Region, Northern Samar, Eastern Samar, and Palawan will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
Meanwhile, Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies.
On Thursday, Jan. 1, PAGASA said the shear line will continue to affect Aurora and Quezon, bringing cloudy skies with scattered rains and isolated thunderstorms.
The state weather bureau said partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated light rains will persist over Ilocos Region, the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), and Cagayan Valley due to the northeast monsoon, while Bicol Region will experience cloudy skies with scattered rains and thunderstorms.
Metro Manila and the rest of the country will remain partly cloudy to cloudy with isolated rainshowers or thunderstorms due to the easterlies, PAGASA said.
Throughout the forecast period, the agency warned that moderate to strong northeasterly winds will prevail over Northern Luzon, resulting in moderate to rough seas.
Elsewhere, winds will be light to moderate coming from the east to northeast, with slight to moderate coastal waters, it added.
