CAMP VICENTE LIM, Laguna – Police destroyed P4.8-million worth of illegal firecrackers during a ceremony here on Tuesday morning, Dec. 30.
PRO 4-A chief Police Brig. Gen. Paul Kenneth Lucas, who led the event, said that from Dec. 16 to present, they conducted a total of 238 police operations, resulting in the arrest of 12 suspects and the confiscation of assorted illegal firecrackers valued at P4.8 million.
Lucas five individuals are currently undergoing medical treatment due to firecracker-related injuries.
One person was apprehended for indiscriminate firing and the suspect faces charges for violating Republic Act No. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
Lucas thanked police operatives and the community for their cooperation in the successful operations against illegal firecrackers.
He reiterated his call for public support in ensuring a safe and orderly New Year celebration.
“I urge the public to refrain from patronizing illegal firecrackers and pyrotechnics. Let us use fireworks only in designated areas and report any information that can help stop the illegal trade of these dangerous items,” Lucas said.
